Welcome to Eigen Values
Welcome to the first post on the Eigen Values substack. I have decided to start this blog because I have grown tired of mainstream media coverage of contentious subjects because it consists of little more than transcriptions of press releases that conform to the approved narrative.
On many subjects, most notably energy policy and climate change, it seems that the media can see only one answer to the problems we face. However, even a cursory analysis of official data will often reveal big flaws in the received wisdom.
I come from a highly analytical background. I graduated with a BEng (Hons) in 1987 and became a management consultant. My assignments started with writing code, implementing big ERP systems leading to rescuing failing projects and turning around failing companies. I subsequently joined the real world holding senior positions in IT and project management leadership in blue chip companies. I have now retired and have plenty of time to get to the bottom of data and knotty problems.
I chose the name Eigen Values for the substack because an Eigen Value is a characteristic or root value of a matrix. Typically matrices are used to express equations representing complex systems. The Eigen Value is one of the components of solving those equations. That is what I aim to do with this substack; analyse contentious areas to get to the root of problems with a view towards highlighting alternative solutions to complex problems. If you like this approach then please comment on the articles, subscribe to the substack and invite your friends.
